A series of performances and discussions exploring what it means to be a woman today.
SoloSIRENs are currently working on the development of a large-scale participatory performance. We will use the Irish myth of Cessair to highlight the experiences of diverse women living in South Dublin County.
In the myth, a woman is denied a place on her father’s ship in a time of floods. In response, she builds three boats of her own to journey to Ireland with 50 women and 3 men. Viewed via a contemporary lens the myth raises questions about climate change, migration, gender equality and women in leadership.
SoloSIRENs collective are working with the Cessair artist team to explore the story. They will form the core cast for the 2021 performance alongside new participants & professional artists.
We look forward to sharing an online work in progress in early 2021.
Our large scale 2021 performance will highlight the stories of a predominantly community cast, showcasing the rich diversity of experiences of people living in South County Dublin.
